Zendaya has pulled out of the starring role in Lifetime's Aaliyah movie, citing "production issues."
This week is chock full of news! Let’s first start with the shake up that happened with “The View.”
TV – Sherri Shepherd decided to decline “The View”‘s offer during contract negotiations. Jenny McCarthy later wrote on her Twitter account “if Sherri goes … I go too. #sisters.”
However, the network has said that was not the case. They decided they would not renew a contract with McCarthy for another season. Whether Shepherd stayed or went, she would be gone regardless.
After Barbara Walter retired last month, the only remaining cast member is Whoopi Goldberg, who must hold down the fort. There are talks and confirmation from ABC that they are going to stir things up for a exciting new season by hiring a male co-host. Stay tuned…
Music – The BET Awards were held this past Sunday at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles. Chris Rock hosted the show, making sure to leave no joke unsaid. He even remarked that Paris Hilton was trying to get her “Kardashian on tonight” dressed in a revealing gown.
The show has really become quite remarkable over the years with tributes and surprise performances. Honoring Lionel Richie, John Legend sang his classics, while Tyrese paid homage to the recently departed Bobby Womack.
All the stars came out to the carpet dressed to the nines, including Gabrielle Union, Kerry Washington, Kevin Hart, Usher, Ne-Yo and many more.
Film – Zendaya Coleman, the 17-year-old Disney star, was slated to play iconic R&B singer Aaliyah in a Lifetime network movie. After casting was announced, the singer/actress received a lot of slack for getting cast from fans.
The family of the singer did not approve or give their support for the making of this film and said they would withhold the rights to use her music. Aaliyah died at the age of 22 in a fateful plane crash while returning home from the Bahamas in 2001.
Zendaya pulled out of the production stating “production issues” which Lifetime has also confirmed in regards to her departure. The project is currently on hold.
