In today’s day and age, our social dynamics have completely shifted to a digital form of expression that seeks out approval and likability strictly through numbers. We measure our popularity based on likes, comments, and shares; a form of communication that is less than a decade old.
Social media has revolutionized what we share, capture, and ultimately expose. It is so prevalent in our lives; it virtually has the ability to make any video go viral over night. There are pros and cons to this of course, but we at Living Out Loud feel the pros far outweigh the cons.
Sure productivity is bound to decrease with our curiosity peaking at what’s the latest and greatest trends, the funny cat videos or hilarious bloopers, but what good is social media if we can share a laugh, a smile, or better yet a dance that will ultimate span the globe and have soldiers, athletes, teachers, scientists and anyone living and breathing mimic this dance. I’m talking about the Harlem shake. We all know it, spent countless hours surfing the net seeing who can top the next shake, and perhaps even tried it ourselves.
Since we love a good laugh, an interesting visceral experience or just a random talented guy beat boxing like you’ve never imagined was possible, here are a few videos that are on our must watch list.
DUI Stop – Dancing Cowboy
Living in LA, DUI’s are an increasing problem we face, but what happens when you get pulled over by a cop after a night of debauchery is certainly not a dance contest. Now I don’t condone drunk driving by any means, but this video certainly had me rooting for the drunk guy.
Turn Down For What – Lil Jon
Typically, I’m not a big fan of music videos but this one takes the cake in terms of vision and creativity. Forget the beautiful skimpy bikini models and the fancy cars, this video has everything but eye candy. Real people, real dance moves, and exceptional visual effects that piece this music video so well, even Michael Bay is a tad bit jealous. This video will make twerking look PG-13.
Beatbox brilliance: Tom Thum at TEDxSydney
Who needs a boom box when you have an Aussie with a loose tongue? The sounds this guy generates with his mouth and a microphone is beyond impressive. Witness this man take you on a musical journey around the world.
