Steve Nash of the Los Angeles Lakers will be honored at the at Sports Spectacular Gala.

Sports Spectacular announced recently that former National Football League tight end, Tony Gonzalez, Los Angeles Lakers all-star, Steve Nash, and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president, Dana White, will be honored at the Sports Spectacular 29TH Anniversary Gala on Sunday, May 18th at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel.

Gonzalez will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award, Nash with the Spirit Award and White with the Visionary Award. The event will once again be hosted by The Insider’s Kevin Frazier, along with Jim Hill and John Salley. Additional honorees, participants and attendees will be announced in the coming weeks.

It was also announcedthat Sports Spectacular has pledged $10 million to establish the Sports Spectacular Health & Wellness Center at Cedars-Sinai in an effort to combat diabetes and obesity by funding new medical research and encouraging healthy eating and exercise. This year’s gala will benefit the new Center and initiative, as well as further the foundation’s mission of linking world-class athletes and innovative medical research to advance healthier futures for all.

More than 1,800 prominent sports figures, entertainers, and business, civic and community leaders will be on hand to support and celebrate the charitable contributions made by their peers and the event’s honorees. The evening is generously sponsored by American Airlines, Gelson’s Markets and Ares Management.

Gonzalez will be awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his amazing career in the NFL. Gonzalez said, “Encouraging people to be active and healthy has always been something that’s very important to me. I’m excited to receive this award and join Sports Spectacular & Cedars-Sinai in support of that cause.”

Nash will be awarded with the Spirit Award, highlighting his many philanthropic efforts in the community. “It’s an honor to accept the Spirit Award, and become a part of the phenomenal list of athletes that Sports Spectacular has recognized throughout their history,” he said.

White will be presented with the Visionary Award, which is presented to an individual who has changed the landscape of the sports world. White stated, “I’m honored to be receiving the Visionary Award from Sports Spectacular. I work with a great team of dedicated, hard working and passionate people, who day in and day out are helping me make the UFC the global success that it is today.”
