There are three must haves to throwing any great party. Good friends. Good food. Good fun.

Good friends are a given. The crazy crowd you roll with is about as good as they come. Good fun starts with the costumes, continue with Cards Against Humanity, and end never. In fact, you’ve already gotten started on your over the top costume, determined to win Best Dressed for the third year in a row. Good food can be a little tricky. Sure, we know all of the usual party favorites.

The classics consist of chips and salsa, party wings, and the proverbial veggie platter with ranch dip. While delicious, they are also all saucy dishes – the antithesis of a costume’s best friend. Sandwiches are boring, and there is absolutely nothing scary about pizza pockets.

Halloween parties require a little more. A wow factor. We’re not talking anything too insane. After all, your over the top costume is clearly the star of the show. But still, wouldn’t it be nice to have a few delectable little freaky treats for those fun friends of yours. How can you spend more time on your costume that the food, and still present a great spread?

Try these three recipes and see just how easy it can be.

Blood Orange Screwdriver

Substitute the juice of blood oranges for regular orange juice in your favorite screwdriver recipe. If there are no blood oranges to be found, a splash or two of grenadine- or even pomegranate liqueur will do just fine. It will even give your cocktail a little flavor twist.

Scary Spicy 7 Layer Dip

Ingredients:

1. 1 large can Jalapeno refried beans
2. 1 can chopped olives
3. ½ tomato (diced)
4. 1 cup green onions
5. 1 cup shredded pepper jack cheese
6. 1 cup sour cream
7. ½ cup extra spicy guacamole
8. 1 pkg hot taco seasoning
9. Juice of ½ lime
10. 1 Serrano pepper (finely chopped)

Instructions:

Stir ¾ packet of hot taco seasoning into refried beans. Fold in the Serrano pepper as well. Add the rest of the taco seasoning to your sour cream, along with the lime juice. Stir until well blended. Now it’s time to layer. In a deep bowl, add a layer of beans, then a layer of cheese, followed by a layer of sour cream, then a layer of green onions, a layer of guacamole, and finally a layer of olives. Repeat all layers once more, and enjoy.

Bandage Sausage Finger Bites

Ingredients:

1. Lil Smokies sausage links
2. 1 can crescent rolls
3. 4 slices cheddar cheese(cut into long thin strips)

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Pop the can of crescent rolls, and roll them out flat. Cut long strips of crescent rolls. Place a strip of cheese on the crescent roll, and wrap around the sausage. Leave the tip of the sausage exposed so it looks like a finger tip sticking out of a bandage. Once all sausages are wrapped, place them on a lightly greased baking sheet, and bake until the crescent roll is a light golden brown.
