I recently discovered this swimwear line called Island State. They have the cutest two piece bikinis; printed one pieces and toddler swim trunks, too.
When asked what the hottest trends of the season were, Island State Swimwear’s director and founder, Jenna Moss, shares, “We’re seeing a real comeback of one pieces and figure-enhancing bikinis – cup-style bikini tops and hip-hugging bottoms, one pieces with plunging neck lines and cheeky triangle tops with mini bottoms. I really love seeing women embrace their natural curves and body shape. Everyone is so different and has something amazing that should be shown off!”
One pieces have been the hottest trend seen in the resort lines from major designers over the past few years, and their popularity is slowly trickling down to the masses.
A few years ago Michael Kors gave us the best kaftan dresses, and they’ve also made their way to swimwear lines.
“Kaftans are so fun and bright; I always find the prints are much more popular,” comments Moss on these super trendy, chic pieces. “Women are becoming much more expressive through fashion and are experimenting with brighter colors in prints. It’s so nice to see.”
Kaftans are perfect with a tiny bikini; they give your outfits an instant chicness.
Being a mom, I’m always looking for the cutest baby clothes around. When I saw the toddler swim trunks on Island State’s website, I immediately fell in love. I want to buy everything on the website but wondered if the company has any plans to expand the children’s line.
“Absolutely, we are in the preliminary stages of design and sample testing,” replies Moss. “The plan is to release a kid’s swimwear print line – with similar prints to our Global Collection in cute mini bikini sets, a one piece with frills and board shorts for the boys. There is nothing sweeter than having an almost-matching Mum and bub pair or Dad and little man!”
Totally agree with Jenna on that one. There’s nothing cuter than matching babies and mommy.
Moss also provides some tips on what type of swimsuit works best for your individual body type.
“I’m a big believer in shape enhancing – I have two sisters, and we all have completely different body shapes. This was one of the driving factors behind the different styles in Island State’s current range,” she begins. “If you’re athletic: Steer clear of styles that create boxy shapes, and opt for something that directs attention to your womanly features. Suits with bust-enhancing details, like a triangle bikini top with tie-side bottoms and twist-bandeau bikini tops with thin side brief-style bottoms.
“If you’re bigger on bottom: Avoid boy shorts – they cut your thighs off in the wrong place and create the illusion that your legs are shorter than they are. If you’re confident in showing off your curves, head towards string bikinis that elongate your legs and show off your thighs. Alternatively, a pear shape looks smoking in a one-piece with a plunging neckline to show off your bust and lower back. Look for one that has higher-cut bottoms.
“If you’re long and lanky: Shop for a bikini with a little bit of detailing. Stay away from full one pieces and opt for something, again, with some detailing or a cut out. Little ruche details on bikini bottoms add shape to your hips, and push-up bikini tops enhance your bustline (Love that!). Frills and twists are your bikini best friend!”
“A bikini should always be something that you feel confident and comfortable in,” Moss concludes. “Team a shape-enhancing style with a skin-tone flattering color or print, and you will be summertime unstoppable!”
