Breakestra kick off the Summer of Soul series at the Hammer Museum July 9.

If you’re looking for something fun to do this summer, look no further. We have you covered, as KCRW and the Hammer Museum have once again partnered to host four nights of live music – part of KCRW’s Summer Nights series, now in its sixth year and as popular as ever. Beginning in July, live bands and DJs are set to provide show-goers with timeless soul music in the Hammer’s courtyard.

The series kicks off on Thursday, July 9 with Breakestra, Miles Tackett’s funk music project. Be sure to have your dancing shoes on, as the band features eight live musicians and is led by Tackett. You are going to definitely dance the night away. KCRW’s Jeremy Sole helps launch the event with his own DJ set.

For the second night, which will take place on Thursday, July 16, you can expect L.A.-based R&B singer Sam Sparro to bring his unique and scale-defying vocals to the Hammer. The seven-member outfit, The Rebirth also performs, bringing their classical soul sound. DJ sets are to be provided by KCRW’s Aaron Byrd and Chris Douridas.

Known as Los Angeles’ “Ambassador or Boogie Funk,” Dam-Funk takes the stage on Thursday, July 23. Also featured is singer-songwriter Martin Luther who is sure to bring his authentic brand of “rebel soul.” Anthony Valadez and Raul Campos provide concertgoers with DJ sets.

The Summer of Soul series comes to an end on Thursday, July 30. Garth Trinidad starts off the evening with his DJ set. The L.A.-based psychedelic funk band Jungle Fire and, hailing from Texas, the soul band known as the Suffers close out the night with a bang.

Along with all of the electrifying sounds, Happy Hour (with a cash bar) is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. each night. During this time, KCRW provides live DJ sets. Live performances begin at 7:30 p.m., and museum hours are extended to 9 p.m. to allow guests to enjoy the exhibits featured in the Hammer Museum.

Show-goers are encouraged to arrive early in order to take advantage of $3 parking under the museum, which is available after 6 p.m.

Summer of Soul will be held at the Hammer Museum, located at 10899 Wilshire Blvd., Westwood. For more information, visit summernights.kcrw.com.
