Spring never really leaves Los Angeles.
With 73-degree temperatures all through out fall and winter it can be amusing to see what the fashion world is predicting for the warmer months. LA style is by far the hippest warm weather casual you can find in the U.S., which makes us the leaders of spring and summer fashion. By the time the rest of the country is even thinking about upcoming balmy seasons we in LA already have our bathing suits on.
With that said, I will not be predicting as much as pointing out the major trends as seen on the streets of LA and the runways from around the world.
Florals. This is not surprising as spring is the season of rebirth, blooming flowers, sunshine and picnics and paired with the 90s trend reaching its peak we get an influx of florals on everything. Loose, sleeveless dresses with large daisies, or high waist shorts with teeny tiny roses all over, any and all incarnations of florals are everywhere.
White. Also not a surprising trend, but when white is paired with a mid-length skirt and a crop top then you are getting into some serious cool. Pair it with some aviators, a gladiator sandals and a gold statement necklace.
Skin. So many cut-outs, crop tops, and translucent fabrics. So much organza! I’m seeing more organza on the Spring 2014 runways then I ever have. Indulge this trend by getting a big, bouncy skirt or a floor-length dress. Either way you will look like your outfit is floating.
Pastels. If you are the type that loves to match please be careful with this one. If you are not careful you will end up looking like an Easter egg. If you are careful you will be tapping into a very feminine vibe. Pastels always remind me of the early ‘60s. Think Jackie O in her pink Chanel suit. Very smart.
Mules. Don’t worry, these aren’t your mothers chunky mules. You can find sleek modern mules that look great with a pair of skinny jeans.
Fringe. From jackets to bags to dresses fringe is being swung from all type of garments and accessories. If you are afraid of fringe being attached to your body then look for a leather purse. From high-end to low-end you can easily add some fun trimming to your closet.
Bomber Jackets. From casual cotton/poly blend to an evening wear silk, bomber jackets are a great alternative to cardigan. Throw it on over an elegant dress before heading out to dinner, or grab a cotton/poly bomber to take to the beach. My personal favorites are the ones with a floral print on the front and back and solid raglan sleeves when worn with with high waisted shorts.
Matte. Matte lips and nails are definitely the trend du jour and are gaining steam. They are beginning to make glossy lips and sparkle nails look so trite.
