Arcade Fire puts on a tremendous live show. (Guy Aroch)
I’ll tell you one thing, I’ve had some really classy music stuck in my head all week, because we’ve got a real classy band playing our show of the week this week. I mean it, Arcade Fire is classy. They may be a bunch of weirdos, but those weirdos have class. And they play better music than you do, so shut up.
Arcade Fire is playing two shows at the Forum this weekend: one on Friday and one on Saturday, and if you can afford a ticket, you should really think about grabbing one. Arcade Fire has a tremendous live show. The spine-tingling choruses, the offbeat stylings and the quality of the musical performance all contribute to an experience that is just as theatrical as it is musical.
But the best part about Arcade Fire’s performances is the authenticity that they convey on stage. The performance is both interactive and heartfelt. You can tell that they really appreciate the fact that they have made it this far.
This year in particular, Arcade Fire has grown in leaps and bounds. Their newest album, Reflektor, has been very well received. Not to mention the fact that they took lead billing at Coachella this year and have been selling a lot of very high-priced seats for the stops on their latest tour. All of this is pleasantly surprising, indeed, considering the fact that this band faced the classic challenge of having to top an already impressive catalogue of music with a new release. In particular, Arcade Fire will always have to hold their albums to the same standard that came with 2010’s The Suburbs. And, they still can’t find a better closer than “Wake Up,” off their 2004 debut, Funeral.
On a side note, if you’re heading to the Forum this weekend, you might want to think about what you’re gonna wear. The Reflektor Tour (or the Reflektour) comes with a not strict, but very apparent dress code. They are encouraging either formal attire or costumes. So take that as you want to take it. I mean, they’ll let you in if you show up in a T-shirt and flip flops, but that would kind of be like showing up to a St. Patrick’s Day party without wearing any green. And you don’t want to be that guy, do you?
