Show of the Week: Chali 2na at Federal Bar

Friday night. Federal Bar in North Hollywood. Chali 2na for $15. Really. He might seem a bit random, but Chali 2na is so underrated. Better known as the guy with the deep voice from Jurassic 5, Chali 2na really knows a thing or two about putting on a show. His tracks are well produced, his flow is precise, but what really makes Chali 2na stand out is his sense of showmanship.

The guy is an MC in every sense of the term. He has a command of the audience, a mastery over his music, and the creativity that it takes to make a performance truly interesting. He does exactly what a Master of Ceremonies is supposed to do: he keeps the performance moving, he holds it all together, he makes sure the audience has a good time, and he does so in a tasteful fashion.

I’ve seen the guy work at a Jurassic 5 show, and I’ve got to say, he really of holds the whole thing together. He’s a great host and he’s super humble about it too. He’s the kind of performer that I’d want to MC my wedding, nah wait, my funeral. I fucking want Charli 2na MCing my funeral.

What’s sick about Friday’s show is that this guy is going to be in a small venue. He’s on tour promoting his newest EP Manphibian Music – Against the Current EP .2., which is actually pretty sick. I have it on right now, well not now, but while I’m writing…you know what I mean. For someone who has already put out as much music as he has, a lot of the tracks on his new EP sound refreshingly fresh, even if it is Chali 2na just rocking his same old style over new beats. But don’t hate, you know you love it.

Federal Bar is at 5303 N. Lankershim Blvd. North Hollywood, CA 91601. I already told you that tickets are $15 but there you go.
