Rumor has it that Kevin Love could be a Laker. (Facebook/Kevin Love)
Kevin Love is already receiving LA “Love” from many fans in the Twitter-sphere as they all hope the rumors of him being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers are true.
Love is having a fantastic season thus far, averaging 26.4 points and 13.3 rebounds per game. But there’s friction in the Minnesota locker room. After the team’s 104-103 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night, Love called out his teammates for failing to get up off the bench during timeouts to be in the huddle late.
In 2012, Love agreed to a four-year contract extension worth between $60-62 million.
Sources had revealed to ESPN.com that Love was determined to have the ability to opt out and become an unrestricted free agent after three seasons if he didn’t like the direction of the team, which means that Love will have the option to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2015 if the Timberwolves aren’t a championship caliber team.
“They should trade him,” an Eastern Conference executive said to CBSSports.com’s Kevin Berger. “No one thinks he’s staying. Everyone knows he wants to go to the Lakers.”
With the recent trade rumors and speculations involving Pau Gasol, we can’t be sure how true the Love rumors are, but the Lakers seem to be considering many options before the trade deadline considering that this Laker season is going below their expectations.
Over the past few years, both Love and Gasol have been discussed in many trade rumors but they never fell into place. It might seem quite impossible to trade Gasol for Love but both teams seem open to make a deal before the February 20 deadline, which can ultimately lead to some possible blockbuster deals.
Count on the Timberwolves to discuss an offer with the Lakers, but we definitely can not rule out other teams to see what they can get for Love if they decide to trade him.
