The world-famous Rock in Rio Festival comes to the U.S. for the first time this May, celebrating its 30th anniversary. This year’s line-up features the likes of No Doubt, Metallica, Bruno Mars and Taylor Swift.
The Rock in Rio Festival is characterized by its series of concerts, all in the same area, that take place in open venues. It originated in Brazil and was founded by business magnate Roberto in 1985. Rio de Janeiro hosted the very first event, and subsequent editions in 1991, 2001, and 2013.
Over the past 30 years, the event has transcended boundaries worldwide, reaching as far as Lisbon, Portugal in 2004 and 2006, and Madrid, Spain in 2012. Rock in Rio has also featured over 1200 artists and acts, including Metallica, AC/DC, Queen, Rod Stewart, James Taylor, Iron Maiden, and Amy Winehouse, among many others. The event has also attracted over 7 million attendees in its lifetime.
For the first time, the event will reach stateside, where it’s bound to tap a very ethnically and culturally diverse audience that will inevitably come together to enjoy the world phenomenon that is rock music.
Rock in Rio will take place in Las Vegas on May 8, 9, 15, and 16 in an area that covers 37 acres. It will feature multiple stages throughout, activities for the fans in attendance such as zip-lining, dining, and a VIP area that will accommodate 4000 people.
