The annual Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona, CA brings crowds that cross one million! Opening Labor Day weekend August 29th, the fair runs through September 28th on the Fairplex grounds that cover a whopping 543 acres. Be prepared to get your walk on.
Simply known as the LACF, this is a fair that one should not miss. Everything and anything that you think a fair should be, is encompassed here. When you first enter the parking lot, it’s automatically overwhelming with the amount of cars that are simply present. Once you head into the actual fair and either take a entrance souvenir photo or pass, you are immediately greeted by giant food kiosks. Your eyes literally bulge out of your head when you try to get your bearings. Deep fried anything is available from cheesecake, pickles, twinkles to snickers!
Food does range from the obvious fair finds like candy apples, large turkey legs, funnel cake, french fries galore, and popcorn, but there are also healthy options too. Salads, fruit, fresh ceviche and sorbets are a great option for keeping cool in the heat.
When you start to walk around the Fairplex grounds to cover as much area as you can, you come across rides, rides, and rides. So many to choose, from the kid zone area to the adult rides that dip, spin, and drop. You hear the shrill and screams coming from the rides and smiles OR sheer terror on the faces of those brave enough to bungee.
Music is also another really important component of the fair. There are free shows that are happening throughout the grounds, and dance performances as well. Large concert halls have big name draws where tickets can be purchased, and are a fantastic evening activity.
Don’t forget about the animals too! It was initially an agricultural fair when it began in 1922 that focused on farming and livestock competitions. Now it’s about petting zoos, and the large animal farm set up with pigs, goats, sheep, bulls, horses and even lemmings!
Highly recommend wearing a comfortable shoe, because you will be on your feet all day. There is so much to see, it’s like being a kid in a candy shop. The LACF is good for all ages, families with kids, preteens, teens, and older couples and friends. There is literally something for everyone. Check it out before it flees, or you will have to wait until next year!
