Tortilla Republic, West Hollywood’s new Mexican style restaurant, celebrated National Nacho Day on Wednesday introducing their delish Monster Nachos.
The new Modern Mexican Grill & Tequileria offers a mouthwatering full Mexican menu with vegan and vegetarian options. West siders rejoice; they have an entire gluten free menu!
The new place, located at 616 N. Robertson Ave., is WeHo’s answer to Downtown’s Mexican food. Positioned near the area’s hottest bars, the restaurant also offers an extensive drink menu, which includes their signature Jalapeño Margarita (House Infused Jalapeño El Jimador Blanco, Agave Fresh Lime Sweet, Cointreau). Careful, it is as potent as it is delicious.
I used to think, “How could Mexican food possibly taste good without lard?” But once you’ve had a taste of Tortilla Republic’s Monsters Nachos plate I became a believer. I’m serious, this is not your typical Mexican burrito place: the food was two notches above expectation. And the staff was warm and accommodating.
The monstrously delicious Monster Nachos are only $10 dollars and enough for two people. They spice up the traditional recipe by switching the corn for flower tortilla chips, which are piled high with pulled chicken breast, carnitas, and braised short ribs. Everything is covered in house made ranchera sauce and topped with black beans, salsa de mesa, and melted Monterrey jack cheese. Yes, there’s more; it’s dolloped with crema, guacamole, pickled jalapeños, queso fresco, and garnished with cilantro.
The carnitas were cooked to perfection with hardly any fat, and the range free pulled roasted chicken is seasoned to perfection and so juicy it melts in your mouth. It’s pairing with the guacamole, which is made with all organic ingredients, makes you never want to go back to a food truck.
Vegetarian or not, anyone will be hooked once trying the Tacos de Jicama which are made of thinly sliced jicama “tortillas,” shrimp, chipotle mayo, cilantro, red onion, avocado, and roasted corn salsa.
Tortilla Republic’s glass Tequila wall, which is gorgeously lit, houses over 70 premium tequilas. Their specialty Jalapeño Margarita is tasty, yet smoothly potent; this cocktail’s a delight. One of those and you are feeling pretty darn happy.
The swanky Mexican eatery has easy parking, which is always a plus in Los Angeles. It also sports a busy bar scene, just ideal for evenings and holidays. There is a breezy patio area in the front, and a chic modern indoor dining area with a warm inviting vibe.
