The Swims penny loafer (Nordstrom)

There are many items that epitomize the California lifestyle: swimsuits, convertibles and longboards are just a few of those things. Right up there with all those things are penny loafers. Nothing makes you appreciate great weather like wearing penny loafers any time of the year.

One thing I love about my Swims penny loafers is that they go well with just about anything—pants, shorts, button-ups, and tees. You name it! They are beautiful!

They’re perfect for casual wear, business or even that sporty look.

The founder of Swims, Johan Ringdal, really prides himself in the way these shoes are manufactured and the quality that goes into every pair. He is from Norway, a place with extreme weather where he says people are a little less image-conscious when it comes to shoes, and thus, often opt for functionality over style.

Growing up wearing galoshes, he wanted something that would be functional and stylish, so he took matters into his own hands and developed Swims loafers. He hit the nail on the head, because that is exactly what these penny loafers are—functional, stylish, and come at a great price. They’re currently available at Nordstom for $159 (+ tax) and I couldn’t be happier with them.

The Swims penny loafer comes in brown, but they also offer them in black and navy blue for those who prefer the classic look; and a blend of regatta blue and orange as well as a navy, teal and white pair for a more bold and daring look.

Being that I’m in my late 20s, I didn’t quite consider myself to be a loafer kind of guy, and neither were my friends. But these penny loafers from Swims are a must-have!

Aside from loafers, Swims also offers galoshes and men’s outerwear.

Swims also has shoes and outerwear for women, and a few different style of bags in their accessories section online. And Swims items are available at several stores in the greater L.A. area! There are about three on the Westside and a few in and around downtown.
