Last night the Hollywood Hills were alive with Sound Of Music. The Hollywood Bowl hosted its annual Sound Of Music Sing A-Long show and it was fun for the entire family. The evening started at 6 p.m. with a pre show filled with audience participation games and costume contests.
The pre show was hosted by Melissa Peterman, best known for her starring role as Barbra Jean on the hit series “Reba.” Peterman was decked out in her finest Austrian Ball attire and got the crowd ready to view one of the best films in history. Peterman kicked off the show by getting the audience amped up and showcasing some of the evening’s best costumes. Audience members came dressed up as various characters from the film starting at the nuns from Nonnberg Abbey to the Von Trapp children in their makeshift former curtain play clothing and even the unpopular Baroness in her upscale Captain’s Ball dress.
The Hollywood Bowl was packed with Sound Of Music super fans who were ready to sing every song from the beloved film. When the film started playing the audience was provided with on screen lyrics to all the Rodgers & Hammerstein music for an easy sing along. The audience was enthusiastic and reactions were heard throughout the screening. The crowd reception would go from thunderous applause at the first sight of Maria (played by Julie Andrews) frolicking amongst the mountains of Austria singing the film’s first and title song “The Sound of Music” to passionate booing at the first scene with the Baronnes (played by Eleanor Parker).
Some guests were even treated to party favors waiting at their seats. These included cards with quotes and characters from the film, a faux invitation to The Captain Von Trapp’s Ball, and Party Poppers to be popped at joyous moments in the film.
The Hollywood Bowl was the perfect setting to get lost in a film that has touched millions of lives and to open a bottle of wine and sing its famous lyrics. The Sound Of Music Sing A-Long at the Hollywood Bowl is one of the best evenings in Los Angeles summers.
