Justice Urban Tavern in Los Angeles.
Downtown LA’s newest gastropub Justice Urban Tavern hosted its VIP Grand Opening party on March 20 in the Little Tokyo area.
Justice Urban Tavern serves modern cuisine with locally sourced ingredients, California craft beers and wines, and unique cocktails. Its mission is to offer a warm and inviting atmosphere against the backdrop of bustling Little Tokyo in Downtown LA.
Executive Chef Francis Dimitrius has created a menu that offers classic dishes with a modern twist, and was on hand at the party meeting the guests.
The evening was filled with an array of hors d’oeuvres and cocktails representing the wide variety of dining options, wines, beers and cocktails that Justice has to offer.
Guests were welcomed into a modern, chic, yet warmly decorated establishment and the tunes from the live band on stage – Palter Ego.
Servers walked amongst the guests offering finger-food portions of their various menu items, with a friendly smile on their face and eager to explain the ingredients of each dish. As guests explored the establishment and mingled, they were exposed to even more of the restaurant’s menu.
Throughout the party were buffet-style food stations, as well as wine and beer stations, all offering samples of what will be served in the restaurant. There was a deli meat and cheese station, where guests could help themselves to numerous kinds of well-paired cheeses and meats; a ribs and wings station with multiple dipping sauces, and a dessert section with an assortment of pastries.
Among the highlights of the evening were the Smoked Pork Ribs. Prepared in drunken barbeque sauce and served with down home slaw, this dish was absolutely cooked to perfection. The meat literally just slides off the bone. Absolutely phenomenal.
Another delightful dish served at Justice is the Big Spiced Shrimp & Chorizo with Tillamook Cheddar Grits. It was definitely an unexpected mix of ingredients, but the chorizo gives the shrimp a delicious, bold flavor, and the pairing with the grits made for a succulent appetizer.
One of the crowd favorites was, without a doubt, the Mushroom Flat Pizza. Served with mozzarella, goat cheese, arugula and truffle salt. It was ideal for those who abstain from meat, yet delicious enough for any meat lover to enjoy.
For dessert, the Warm Pecan Pie was exquisite and bold, while the Sticky Toffee Bread Pudding with whiskey sauce was delectable – and one of the best bread puddings in the city.
For the party, Justice featured two of their signature cocktails, both unique yet equally delightful. The Beach cocktail, prepared with Grey Goose, fresh orange and lemon juice, contreau, and ginger beer was luscious and very refreshing; while The Accused, prepared with Woodford Reserve, lemon juice, Southern Comfort, and pomegranate, was very hearty and bold, and the pomegranate was an excellent, but not overbearing, touch of sweet.
Overall, Justice Urban Tavern has made an excellent impression, and promises to become one of the premiere hang-out spots in Downtown LA.
