Animation Block and founder Casey Safron hit up Los Angeles Thursday night for a unique Valentine’s Day showcase of some of the animations from the New York Festival.
The event was hosted at the legendary Troubadour in West Hollywood. The night consisted of witty animated shorts in the theme of love, live music and studio cartoon highlights. There was Valentine’s Day candy, drinks and a guest list composed of members of the Los Angeles animator circles.
The event showcased animation from Nickelodeon, Six Point Harness and Loopdeloop. We got to preview “Baby,” an MTV (Other) exclusive satirical series about the various ways millennials attempt to find love. It was hilarious and well worth keeping an eye out for as they poked fun at how young love works nowadays.
There was also a premiere of an exclusive cartoon bumper from two-time Oscar nominee, Bill Plympton. Guests chatted about the shorts and mingled to the music with leisure while the space filled in decently as the night wore on.
Music was headlined by the electro folksy San Francisco-based Mikey Maramag as Blackbird Blackbird with an opening act by Colleen Green who performed cute and quirky bandless tunes.
The music set the ambiance for the art scene and really allowed for guests to speak to one another in this Valentine’s Day shindig that really was set apart from the bumpin’ same old in the city.
The Animation Block Party is the largest animation festival on the East Coast and is attended by over 4,500 enthusiasts, filmmakers, industry folk and distributors.
