Coolio performs new songs and hits like “Gangsta’s Paradise” and “Fantastic Voyage” at the Canyon Club.
If you grew up in the ’90s like I did, then I’m sure you remember listening to artists like LL Cool J, Madonna and of course Coolio. In the mid-‘90s, the music world was raw, inventive and praised fresh creativity. Coolio fit right in.
He was a rapper – that much is for sure. But he wasn’t your typical gangsta rapper. Artis Leon Ivey Jr. (better known as Coolio) had a much lighter, and often more uplifting, message for his audience.
This led to him creating “Gangsta’s Paradise,” a song that was featured in the award winning film Dangerous Minds, one of the most powerful movies of its time. “Gangsta’s Paradise” not only won Coolio a Grammy, but it won the hearts of mainstream music lovers, and that song is forever embedded in our memories.
On Friday, July 24, you can take a stroll down memory lane when Coolio performs an intimate concert at Canyon Club in Agoura Hills. Canyon Club has played host to countless amazing concerts, and this one is proving to be no exception. With the venue holding approximately one 1,000 people, it seems to me that there could not possibly be a bad seat in the house. The doors open at 9 p.m., so sit back, relax, and take a “Fantastic Voyage.”
Bask in the memory of favorites like “1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin’ New),” and open your mind to some of Coolio’s new and less mainstream work. He has had released five albums since the ’90s, with a sixth that is scheduled to be released later this year. What an amazing opportunity to hear an exclusive or two. So whether you round up your childhood friends, call that crush you’ve been meaning to ask out on a date or just need a great night to yourself – this Coolio concert is the place to be.
