Over 300 women attended the Cedars-Sinai Sports Spectacular Women’s Luncheon & Fashion Show at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Tuesday, April 8th. The charity event feature Katherine Webb and Kendra Wilkinson-Baskett.
The event is co-chaired by Julie Harelson, Sharon Hernandez, Tonya Winfield and Linda Rambis, all whom have brought together some of LA’s most influential and stylish women.
Wilkinson-Baskett, who is expecting her second child, says raising awareness for the The Sports Spectacular Health & Wellness Center is very important to her as a mother and an active member in her community.
“The ability to increase the problems for children that are suffering from diabetes and obesity is not just something a mother should worry about for her kids but also for the people they care about,” said Wilkinson-Baskett.
When asked if this event has helped her be better aware of her child health she said, “definitely.”
“I’ve been in this entertainment industry. Especially with Playboy on the pressures to be pretty and healthy, but this charity goes beyond that,” added Wilkinson-Baskett. “It’s more about you’re health and wellness. It will all be beneficial to your well being in the end and as you get older.”
Sports Spectacular Women’s Luncheon has become the annual kick-off event for Sports Spectacular and its fundraising efforts as they impact everyday lives. They provide free primary and preventive health care services for low‐income and medically underserved children, as well as improved prenatal screening techniques for genetic defects, allowing for earlier treatment and increased success rates.
And they provide education that empowers kids to lead active and healthy lives.
All the guest enjoyed lunch and an amazing fashion show highlighting the latest styles from Neiman Marcus, all while supporting research programs at Cedars-Sinai.
Webb, model and fiancé of former Alabama star quarterback AJ McCarron, was the last to arrive and stunningly showed off her engagement ring, but made sure that was not the highlight of the evening.
“I’m glad to be here,” said Webb. “I love that so many women are here, not just to show the importance of this charity but we are all here to support one another to make a difference.”
The present media congratulated Webb on her engagement, and she could not help but to smile.
“Thank you,” she said. “Being engaged definitely requires commitment, just like with your very own health. That is why I am here. We have raised over $27 million dollars for charity, to help kids have a better life. One day I will be a mother and it’s important to stay informed on how to live and long and healthy lifestyle.”
Webb added, “I personally don’t have any family members that suffer from diabetes or obesity, but I know people and kids out there that do, so it is important for me to show my support and keep this sports spectacular tradition going. We also have a lot of great sponsors and other professional athletes that are involved, which is great because it gives people and young children hope that they can overcome such hard time in their lives.”
Other celebrity supporters included Amy Purdy, Angela Sun and Seema Sadekar.
The Women’s Luncheon was a “kick-off” event to thank the extraordinary women who support the Annual Sports Spectacular Gala which will take place Sunday, May 18,2014 at the Century Plaza Hotel in Century City.
