SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE is coming to Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles and the Season 11 tour lineup includes the following Top 10 finalists: Bridget Whitman, Casey Askew, Emilio Dosal, Jacque LeWarne, Jessica Richens, Ricky Ubeda, Rudy Abreu, Tanisha Belnap, Valerie Rockey and Zack Everhart.
SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE is an 11-time Primetime Emmy® Award-winning show that’s sparked America’s fascination with dance.
Rockey, the runner-up in Season 11, specializes in the genre of tap dance. The Indianapolis-native began to dance at age 3.
In an exclusive interview with Living Out Loud LA, Rockey spoke about her experience on the television show, love for dance, and the upcoming performance on Wednesday, January 28, 2015.
Living Out Loud: Tell us about your overall experience on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Season 11.
Valerie Rockey: The overall experience was incredible. It was the most difficult yet most amazing thing I’ve ever been through. I’ve made some of my best friends and got to share what I love most with SO many people.
LOL: Most memorable moment for you while on the show and why?
VR: The most memorable moment for me was stepping onto the stage for the very first time during the first live taping. I have never had that much excitement and adrenalin during one moment!
LOL: You started dancing since the age of 3. How have you evolved over the years, especially with your appearance on the show?
VR: I have evolved so much throughout my years dancing. I have become a much more versatile dancer and also have found dance my true love for dance beyond just the technique and everything.
LOL: Do you wanna keep dancing all your life, or do you perhaps envision yourself pursuing other professional endeavors?
VR: I see myself dancing or being associated with dance for the rest of my life.
LOL: So many youngsters out there who might wanna follow your footsteps. Any advice for them?
VR: I always say get exposed and be yourself. A big way to grow as a dancer is watch other dancers. And I believe being yourself will get anyone much further in life.
LOL: You’ll soon perform at Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles. What can we expect out of the show and your performance in particular?
VR: It’s a very versatile show! There’s a little bit of everything and every dance transitions so nicely into the next. I would say it’s very entertaining and shows everyone’s talents nicely!
LOL: What would you like to tell our readers to entice them to come out and see the show on January 28, 2015?
VR: Dancing is such a cool form of art and entertainment, so why not come watch it live?! There’s really nothing like watching dances live and feeling the energy pour off of the stage.
LOL: Anything else to add?
VR: I’m so excited to perform in LA, finally!
