The new Plan Check Kitchen + Bar location is located at 351 N. Fairfax Ave.

Plan Check Kitchen + Bar opened its second location in the Fairfax neighborhood this past Friday, December 13th. Executive Chef and partner Ernesto Uchimura offers his modern take on American comfort food, and the restaurant also offers craft beers and innovative cocktails by Matt Biancaniello.

Chef Uchimura, of Japanese and Argentine descent, utilizes Asian accents in his interpretations of American classics. A perfect example is his signature dish – The Plan Check Burger ($11). This delicious concoction comes layered with Americanized dashi cheese, ketchup leather, schmaltz onions, and shaved pickles with a slightly crunchy bun. PCB_Web05

“American food extends far beyond traditional dishes or regions like the South or New England,” Uchimura says. “I try to demonstrate how our cuisine has been influenced by the comfort foods of immigrants from around the world that have been Americanized.”

The Fairfax location will also offer a new ‘Late-night Bite Menu,’ which will be available nightly during the last 2 hours of service. It will feature 3-4 rotating items at the chef’s discretion, such as the Pastrami Poutine ($7) – prepared with beef tallow French fries, pastrami gravy, bits of pastrami, chopped pickles and melted Swiss cheese.

PCB_Web11For liquid therapy, cocktail chef Matthew Biancaniello offers his unique creations ($12-14), such as The Last Tango – prepared with Ford gin, strawberries, Gourmet Blends balsamic, and St. Germain Foam. Another one of his signature cocktails is the Ice Breaker – prepared with Japanese whiskey, Batavia Arrak, lime juice, Monin agave syrup, passion fruit, ghost pepper salt, El Jimador tequila, and chunks of aloe vera.

The Fairfax location features vintage architectural office elements with industrial décor. It also features polished cement floors, metal barstools, and hand-written chalk menus. The open layout is complemented with an expansive bar and large communal table. The design and décor of the restaurant aptly represent the modern cuisine and vibrant Fairfax lifestyle. Plan Check plans to open a third location on Wilshire Blvd. in the spring of 2014.
