The show of the week this week is something pretty unique. To put it bluntly, Emancipator is playing this Friday at The House of Blues on Sunset. Which, in itself wouldn’t be that unique. The thing is, this time around, it’s not just Emancipator playing the show, it’s the brand new Emancipator Ensemble that’s gonna play.
What’s the Emancipator Ensemble you ask? Well, it’s basically Emancipator, so a dreamy, trip-hop DJ with an accompanying violinist. But now, Emancipator’s added four additional members including a guitarist and a drummer to really fill out the sound and create a better live experience.
For lack of a better word, the show is gonna be dope. Emancipator is already known for having a mesmerizing live performance that’ll leave you gazing back and forth between the stars or ceiling above you, and of course, the tasteful visuals on stage. But with an entire band backing the artist, the resulting performance is just going to that much more engaging.
The act has talent, but equally as important, this show is going to be something special because it’s being produced by the Do Lab. The Do Lab being the same production company responsible for the Lightning in a Bottle festival, and of course, the famed Do Lab stage placed right in the center of the Coachella festival. With the Do Lab behind this performance, you know that it’s going to be a visual feast, and an artistic spectacle; not to mention a fantastic atmosphere for some class A people watching.
Which makes it surprising that this show is at the House of Blues on Sunset. A classic home for all kinds of rock and your occasional funk show or hip hop show, it’s amazing that they would open their doors to all of the dirty footed hippies that are going to show up. Regardless, HOB is going to be a great venue for this show. There are ample bars, ample bathrooms, a low key smoking section so that you can sneak doobies in peace, and best of all, two levels. If I were you, I’d post up somewhere up top with a good view of all the lights.
Show’s on Friday April 4. Tickets are 22 bucks if you buy in advance and $25 if you buy at the door at House of Blues on Sunset.
