Vancouver Fashion Week will be returning for its 25th consecutive season next month to launch the Fall/Winter 2015 collections from designers across the globe and Canada’s most exciting talent.
From Monday, March 16th to Sunday, March 22nd, Vancouver Fashion Week will return to its downtown venue at Queen Elizabeth Plaza.
The Opening Gala will kickstart the week of showcase events, presenting the creative talents of more than 30 designers from all over the world.
Vancouver Fashion Week founder Jamal Abdourahman is thrilled with the breadth of creative talent from new as well as returning designers.
Says Abdourahman, “We are looking forward to sharing amazing creativity this season, with Vancouver shining the spotlight on lots of great local and international talent. We love to celebrate the diversity of fashion culture, and Vancouver provides this perfect platform to support emerging talent.”
Amongst the top-returning designers is Noe Bernacelli, whose Peruvian international style and beauty has been greatly received in Vancouver. He will be joined by Shravan Kumar whose motto, ‘Fashion is religion, than mere profession,’ inspired his unconventional designs and use of textiles.
Also on the lineup, is Hong Kong designer Hong Kiyoung. Kiyoung is widely recognized for his luxury streetwear, which experiments silhouettes and colorful prints.
Every season, Vancouver Fashion Week continues to push its boundaries and strives to attract new and emerging designers from across the world.
This season it welcomes Chinese designer ILOVECHOC, who mixes cute cartoon designs with luxury fabrics. Korean company JUKOjulie, who has been greatly welcomed into the New York fashion scene and designer Paloma Sanchez, who has been recognized as one of the “30 Best Jewelry Designers” in the world (Unique Book; The Best Jewelry Designers.)
VFW also continues to support the city’s homegrown talent with the return of local designers Connally McDougall, Grandi’s Atelier and Sara Armstrong. All three designers are local to Vancouver and are inspired by the city.
Says Armstrong, “I am excited to be returning for FW15 at Vancouver Fashion Week. The team is a great group of creative minds and they are amazing to work with. They are setting the pace for up and coming Canadian fashion designers supporting them with an international market. It is the best fashion event in western Canada and I cannot wait for the Opening Gala.”
Perhaps VFW’s most refreshing designer to show this season is Silver Lake, Oregon’s 15-year-old Kate Miles.
Says Kate, “Color and texture has always been a whole other language to me. I read them like poetry. Drape and movement speak to me, and the dress just takes shape in my mind. Ideas lie in everything from a brick wall to a flower in my garden. Sometimes I will sketch it out, but usually I just pick up my scissors and go for it. My designs are always a juxtaposition of vintage with a modern edge. I love taking the delicate fabrics and laces from old garments and paring them with newer and bolder aspects to create something timeless, but exciting.”
