When you’re an acclaimed musical diva like Omara Portuondo, celebrating 85 years on this earth – and over 50 years of performing – by going mounting a cross-country tour is completely appropriate. The Cuban singer and dancer is widely known for her incredible voice as a founding member of the Cuarteto d’Aida vocal group and performances with the iconic Buena Vista Social Club, and to commemorate her special year, she’s heading out on a U.S. Tour that stops in Los Angeles Oct. 5. Experiencing her warm and sultry vocals in a the gorgeous, and acoustically perfect, Walt Disney Concert Hall is going to be a lasting memory.
In honor of the occasion, Portuondo is bringing along several special guests to share the stage with. Fellow Cuban, Roberto Fonseca is sure to dazzle as he tickles the ivories, as will jazz clarinetist Anat Cohen and jazz violinist Regina Carter. Their virtuosic playing paired with Portuondo’s pipes promise an amazing evening of music.
