Vintage Masters of Swing
This Saturday, June 13th the city of Santa Monica will host a special evening celebrating Big Band favorites at the Broad Stage Theatre.
From Van Alexander hits to Benny Goodman melodies, the best of the big band era will be performed live at the first concert presented by Musicians at Play. MAP is a non-profit foundation lead by April Wiliams dedicated to the enrichment of local communities’ quality of life through music performances and fine arts events.
“We are excited to present The Vintage Masters of Swing, celebrating the work of so many legendary composers. We are especially thrilled that they will be conducting their classic hits that evening,” says April Williams, MAP Executive Director. The concert will feature the work of five jazz greats including Patrick Williams, Ralph Carmichael, Bill Holman, Sammy Nestico, Richard Sherman and Van Alexander, who will be celebrating his 100th birthday.
Directed by composer-conductor Tim Simonec, the show will also feature Tierney Sutton, Sue Raney and Janene Lovullo on vocals. Leonard Maltin, respected film critic and historian, will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Surprise guests are also anticipated.
The jazz extravaganza will take place at The Broad Stage at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center on Saturday June 13, 2015 at 7:30 p.m.
The venue is located at 1310 11th St., Santa Monica, CA 90401.
The reception will benefit the MAP Foundation. Parking is located on-site at The Broad Stage accessible form Santa Monica Blvd. and 11th Street.
Admission is between $45-145
