The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association announced today its Hollywood Bowl 2014 summer series, which will feature a wide variety of music acts hitting the Bowl’s stage.

The 2014 summer season spans 15 weeks, from June to September. New subscriptions for the Hollywood Bowl 2014 summer season are available starting today, and the Hollywood Bowl box office opens for single ticket sales on Sunday, May 4.

“The 2014 Hollywood Bowl summer season presents an extraordinary array of music in one of the world’s most iconic musical venues,” said Deborah Borda, LA Phil President and Chief Executive Officer on a prepared statement. “The opening of the Hollywood Bowl each year marks the official start of summer for generations of music lovers across Los Angeles. This year is particularly special as Gustavo Dudamel celebrates his fifth season as Music Director at the venue where he made his U.S. debut. He returns with an all – Beethoven program; the third installation of his signature festival, Americas & Americans, with programs that showcase popular and classical music as well as film composers from North and South America; and of course, his summer appearances include opera – this time two of the great Italian operas – Cavalleria rusticana and Pagliacci. Esa – Pekka Salonen makes a rare visit, and we delight in the return of dear friends, including Joshua Bell, Yo – Yo Ma, Steve Martin and John Williams. Anniversaries abound with the 15th year of the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame Opening Night, the 20th anniversary of Dream Works Animation and the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ first Hollywood Bowl performance.”

“Herbie Hancock, entering his fifth season as Creative Chair for Jazz, and Thomas Wilkins, Principal Guest Conductor of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, also return, collaborating with some of t he world’s greatest musicians,” added Borda. “The season begins when, under the Philharmonic umbrella for the first time, we present the Playboy Jazz Festival. There is something here for everyone, and we look forward to welcoming you back this summer.”

Opening night will take place on Saturday, June 21 and feature the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra with Thomas Wilkings as conductor. The night honors music legends with the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame concert, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display. One week before, the Bowl will entertain the Playboy Jazz Festival with George Benson, Earl Klugh, Jamie Cullum and others. George Lopez will serve as host.
