Lila Downs kicked off her 2014 U.S. tour with a show for Yahoo! Live and also released a new album, Raíz.

She performs in Los Angeles Aug. 22 at the Greek Theatre with opening act, Kinky, in tow.

With her unique style of interpreting Mexican music, Downs returns to the United States to present her colorful spectacle full of good music and lots of heart. Downs, the daughter of a Mexican mother and Scottish father, grew up in Oaxaca, Mexico, Minnesota and California. Her multicultural roots help give her shows their own identity known around the world and help her establish connections with the places she visits.

Downs is a crusader for noble causes, and her music touches on subjects such as social injustice, politics, immigration and the overall human condition. Her innovative take on traditional Mexican music comes alive through her original compositions and fusions with jazz, soul, African beats and blues, along with her captivating voice.

Always performing with her multi-instrumental band, La Misteriosa – whose director is Downs’ husband, collaborator and producer, Paul Cohen – she embarks on her U.S. tour with a show full of surprises and guest stars.

The tour kicked off on Aug. 8 in Chicago at the House of Blues and was broadcast live on Yahoo! Live. It’s important to note that Downs became the first Latin music artist to be featured on that platform.

In conjunction with her tour, she released her new album Raíz, which is available at each of her performances.
