Let’s be honest: eating food is great! From pizza to tacos, chocolate brownies and pancakes, there are so many delicious treats that we simply cannot resist. However, what if some of your favourite foods were killing your sex drive? How excited would you be about your favourite snacks if you realised that they were getting in between you and your partner? Before we go any further, bear in mind that you do not have to give up eating the following foods entirely. The fact is, you can treat yourself to your favourite foods whenever you fancy it – so long as you are eating plenty of nutritious food and finding a healthy balance.

We’re going to share some foods which are undeniably delicious, and it will be quite painful to learn that they may be killing your sex drive. But just remember that you don’t need to say goodbye for good! You simply need to moderate your consumption.

1. Soft drinks such as Cola

If you are drinking soft drinks such as Cola on a daily basis, then you may wish to limit your consumption. The artificial sweeteners used to make them taste so delicious, directly affect your levels of serotonin. This is the happy hormone that is crucial in encouraging your overall sense of good health and well-being. Low levels of serotonin, is linked to a decreased libido in both men and women.

You can enjoy the occasional soft drink binge, but stick to water and other healthy options to be on the safe side.

2. Processed foods

Yes, eating cookies and delicious bread is a whole lot of fun, however, they don’t do much for your libido. The fact is, processing food typically strips it of all its nutrients, especially ones which encourage sexual desire. For example: when wheat is processed into white flour, it loses a whopping ¾ of its zinc, which is a crucial mineral in sexual health and reproduction in men. 3. Sugar

You knew it was coming! Sugar tastes far too delicious to be any good for you. Yes, in small doses it has its benefits, but if you consume too much it can negatively impact your health in a variety of ways. Namely: high levels of sugar in your blood will have an adverse effect on the gene that controls your sexual hormones. Additionally, all of the excess fat that isn’t processed by your liver is stored as lipids. This can deactivate your sex hormone binding globulin which controls your testosterone and oestrogen levels.

4. Alcohol

We all know that drinking excessive amounts of alcohol is bad for your liver – and as the organ is largely responsible for metabolising hormones, if your liver is struggling, it can convert androgens into oestrogens and ultimately result in a poor sex drive. Alcohol is a depressant and can impede a man’s ability to maintain an erection – particularly when consumed in large quantities.

Again, you don’t have to give up drinking entirely. Just limit your consumption and find a healthy balance. You can enjoy the occasional night out for some fun with friends and family, but if you are planning on hooking up with your partner, don’t overdo it!

5. Poor quality meats

Poor quality, processed meats aren’t great for your libido either. As lovely as it is to enjoy the occasional hot dog at a ball game, it’s not going to do much for your sexual performance. This is because processed meats are laced with hormones, preservatives, and antibiotics that can cause a hormonal imbalance in your body, thus leading to a reduced sex drive.

Just make sure you eat plenty of whole foods and cook as often as you can – as opposed to ordering takeout all of the time. Eating healthier is not only great for your health in general, your sexual health, and your weight levels, but it is also good for your bank balance as well!

But it’s not just what you eat that can influence your sex drive. There are many other lifestyle choices that could be holding you back, such as smoking cigarettes and not getting enough exercise.
