The Los Angeles Galaxy announced today that the club has signed forward Robbie Keane to a multi-year contract extension.
The Galaxy MVP in 2013, Keane tallied 16 goals and added 11 assists over the course of 23 appearances during the Galaxy’s 2013 MLS campaign. Per club and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Since joining the Galaxy in August 2011, the Irish international has scored 34 goals and notched 21 assists in 55 MLS appearances. Keane, a member of the MLS Best XI for the past two consecutive seasons, finished in the top three of the 2013 MLS MVP vote. The 33-year-old forward has also found the back of the net seven times with three assists in 12 post season appearances while helping the Galaxy to raise the MLS Cup in both 2011 and 2012.
Keane, who has represented the Republic of Ireland since 1998, is one of the most prolific scorers in international soccer. The Dublin, Ireland product has scored 62 goals in 131 appearances while representing Ireland. Keane was recently awarded the Football Association of Ireland’s Senior International Player of the Year for the second time (2009) in his career.
