The CONCACAF Champions League draw took place June 3rd at the InterContinental at Doral in Miami, Fla. and the full tournament schedule will be announced in late August. The CONCACAF Champions League winner will earn a berth to the 2014 FIFA World Club Cup.
This is the fourth consecutive year the Galaxy has qualified for the Champions league and they’re looking to redeem themselves after falling in the quarterfinals of 2011-12 and semifinals of 2012-2013.
In Group 8, the Galaxy will face Isidro Metapan and Club Sport Cartagines. Metapan lost several games against the Galaxy during last season’s competition, but head coach Edwin Portillo has guided Metapan to seven league titles since 2006 and aims to defeat the Galaxy.
Cartagines qualified to the tournament by being the summer runner-up in Costa Rica. They filled in for Belize’s spot since their country’s soccer league suffered a disqualification for not having adequate facilities.
