The sun is shining, the sky is blue and the calendar is quickly filling up with activities. From early morning surf sessions, to Saturday afternoon hikes, Southern California is full of adventures just waiting to be enjoyed. Like the local Wednesday Farmers’ Market. Or a trip to the Getty for that third date – a date you are both sure to remember.

How about that field trip to the aquarium with your daughter’s entire third grade class? See, your calendar has even more penciled in dates than you thought.

With so much to do, you can say goodbye to that new healthy lifestyle you swore yourself to, right? Wrong. There’s no reason to forgo your “Get Fit for Summer” meal plan if you simply plan ahead. Healthy snacking and hiking go hand in hand. Dried fruit, mixed nuts, and protein bars can be perfect little handy snacks. If you blend up and freeze a fruit smoothie the night before the big hike, it should be thawed and ready to enjoy once you make it back down the hill.

Make your date to the Getty extra special by ending it with a surprise picnic. Grilled chicken, grape tomatoes, pita chips and hummus dip. Doesn’t sound like anyone is breaking a diet with this tasty meal! Festive plates and a pretty presentation won’t hurt either. Chicken tarragon sandwiches, sliced carrots, and kale chips, work so well as a sack lunch for field trips. Throw in an oatmeal cookie or a fruit and yogurt parfait, and you’ve got dessert too.

Tasty snacks, filling lunches, and smaller waistlines. I don’t know about you, but I can definitely get on board with that. What’s more, you can pocket the extra $20 you saved on munchies, for your next stay-cation with the girls in San Diego. First round of cocktails on you!
