Award-winning sextet Guy Mendilow Ensemble is set to premiere their all-new show titled “Tales from the Forgotten Kingdom” at the Skirball Cultural Center on March 27.
Tickets are $20 through Sunday, February 23, 8:59 a.m. After this date and time, tickets will be $30 for the general public; $25 for members and full-time students.
The Guy Mandilow Ensemble is a multicultiral affair. Formed in 2004, it is comprised of musicians from Israel, Palestine, Japan, the United Kingdom and the U.S.
Their new show, “Tales from the Forgotten Kingdom,” takes the audience on a musical trek to kingdoms long forgotten and bustling towns now vanished—through the Balkans to the Middle East, beginning in Sarajevo and winding through Salonica and Jerusalem.
Stories of vagabond queens, pauper poets, and lovers lost to the sea are woven with spellbinding arrangements of old Sephardic songs, full of soulful flamenco harmonies, the melancholy sounds of Portuguese-style fado, and heart-pounding percussion.
The Skirball Cultural Center is located at 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd. in Los Angeles (exit 405 Freeway at Skirball Ctr Dr). Parking is free.
