As fantasy sports grow in popularity, it is attracting people who aren’t usually big sports fans. They might watch a game in passing but are not superfans. What usually happens, though, is that by playing fantasy they gain an extra interest in the game and become bigger fans. The season gets far more interesting when you have a stake in what’s happening, after all.

Do the research

The most essential part of fantasy sports is the research. You could put together a team randomly and have some success if you’re lucky, but you really tilt the odds in your favor by taking the time to research players. 

The research process is twofold. First, it can give you a lot of insight on who to pick that is best for your team. The draft is very important so picking the right players is essential. The second thing is that it helps the new fan get to know many of the players in the league and what their skills are. This makes watching the game more enjoyable. 

Part of the research should be reading cheat sheets about the players and then coming up with a draft strategy. The research doesn’t end there, however. You need to also set your lineups during the season so coming up with an NBA showdown strategy is very important.

Pick the right format

A popular way to play is to set up a draft party before the season starts and form a league for the entire season. This is sometimes a lot of work for somebody who isn’t a huge fan of the sport.

A good way to play if you didn’t start before the season, or would rather have the option to not pay attention for a while is to play DFS or Daily Fantasy Sports. These are leagues that form for the day of a game and you go head to head against another owner. When the day is finished, your league is finished. If you win, then you get paid for the win without having to wait to see the standings at the end of a season. 

Have a trading strategy

Often ignored by many people new to fantasy sports is trading. It is a good idea to always be on the lookout for favorable trades. There are going to be poor matchups during the season and injuries happen. Having a strategy for the best times to make a trade is going to help you win and also keep you informed about what is happening in the league which makes it more fun to watch.
