Taste food from some of the best Latin-centric restaurants in the city at East LA Meets Napa: World Tour.
Every year, California’s largest community health organization, AltaMed, holds its signature fundraiser, East LA Meets Napa, a celebration of food and wine that brings Latino-centric restaurants from Los Angeles and Latino-owned wineries from Napa together to raise money for essential health programs in underserved communities. The 2016 event is this Friday, July 15, at California Plaza in Downtown, its largest venue yet.
The theme this time around is World Tour, which aims to juxtapose Californian and international homages to Latin cuisine. Participants include “Top Chef” alum Katsuji Tanabe of MexiKosher, Socorro Herrera of Yuca’s, Gilberto Cetina of Chichen itza, Portos Bakery & Café, Casa Oaxaca and Rocio’s Mexican Kitchen, as well as chefs from around the world like Ingrid Hoffmann, Doreen Colondres, Ana Quincoces and Hamlet Garcia. Visiting winemakers include Rolando Herrera of Mi Sueno Winery and Lupe Maldonado of Maldonado Vineyards. You can also taste varietals from Alximia Vino Elemental, Baron Balche and Bodegas de Santo Tomas.
Aside from the delicious food and wine to be sampled at East LA Meets Napa, musical legend Poncho Sanchez and Grammy-winning Jose Rizo and his 15-piece ensemble, Jazz on the Latin Side All Stars, are going to perform.
