Bring smiles into your life with the Suburban Monk’s Syd (pictured in Abundant Green).
There was a massive golden Laughing Buddha statue in the waiting area of one of my parents’ favorite Chinese restaurants we often frequented when I was a child. My mom said, “Rub his belly for good luck,” and I would do so and giggle. The story of how Ellen Atkins came to create the Suburban Monk is equally full of smiles and statues of monks.
Although her life as a wife, mother and corporate CPA was full, Atkins was not content. She set out on a mission to find out what made her happy, surrounding her self with anything that made her laugh. Enter Syd the monk. She purchased some happy monk statues that would become her daily inspiration. She dressed them up with random household items and duct-taped inspirational messages on them each day.
Eventually she designed a unique suburban monk statue with fitted clothes, an open hand for holding car keys or her much-loved inspirational sayings. From this initial design, came Sydney, the little smiling monk, forever holding two thumbs up. Atkins found a way to bring happiness into her life and into the everyday lives of others with these little Syd statues.
You can bring some Syd smiles into your own home by purchasing a $20 statue from the Suburban Monk. Sydney comes in 14 different colors, from Radiant Red and Abundant Green to Blissful Bronze and Optimistic Orange.
The Suburban Monk offers different Syd Sets, like a Yin and Yang Set of Ebony and Wondrous White Syds for $36, A Zen Syd Set for $55 and a Complete Syd Set for $225. You can also purchase Tanks or Tees for yoga class and mugs from the Suburban Monk. The options are many for bringing some laughter into your life.
