It’s official, in it’s 4th year Horror theater company Delusion reigns supreme over all other Halloween activities in the city. The fact that it has SOLD-OUT every year consecutively is a testament to that. Those who have been, always return to share this astoundingly terrifying experience with new blood.
For those wondering what exactly the Delusion team brings, it can be best described as an interactive play in which you are as much a part of the story as it’s ensemble for 45 minutes. It is an intimate immersion into the haunted worlds that creator Jon Braver and co. create annually. Audiences quickly find that once they’re in, they lose their grasp of reality as they try to find their way out of the chilling nightmares they’ve signed up for. Yes, you do have to sign some papers before you go in, allowing performers to touch and take you along to wherever they deem with your full cooperation.
There are challenges to be fulfilled, creatures to face and souls to save in this years tale “Lies Within” about a group of literature fanatics that break into the home of beloved horror author Elena Fitzgerald. You are part of this following and once inside discover that the worlds she created have melded in reality as her voice echoes through the halls in conclusion of her final work. A work that you become a part of as every room holds secrets and characters from her macabre works. The monsters and sets are wicked superbly done. The details and makeup dissolve the real world in twisted surprising ways. The actors in the show bring the experience so much to life that they add onto how incredibly easy to forget you’re just in a play. The obstacles you face test your fears in ways that are skin crawling and shocking. There are live animals as it were, some with 8 legs. But Lies Within isn’t about shock factor or jump scares. The story and the stakes of solving the mystery of Elena’s disappearance will capture you from the start and make you feel that you truly have to save one another from everything thrown your way.
So if you’re interested now, good luck trying to get tickets. Kidding, some tickets do get released when there are cancellations. Be sure to check out their twitter and facebook as that’s generally where they make announcements about freed up tickets. Other than that there is a chance they will extend the run into November so be sure to be at the ready when those tickets go on sale. It is completely worth it and unlike most anything available in the city for Halloween. Can’t wait to see how they up the ante next year!
