Hundreds of people lined up yesterday afternoon for Cine Gear Expo Los Angeles. The event, held at the Studios at Paramount in Hollywood, had the crowd humming with excitement as people began to enter the venue to look, handle the latest in production gear and accessories at the expansive annual showcase.
Handshakes, exchanging of business cards and demos happened throughout the backlot of the Studios at Paramount at the ever-popular event. Exhibitors promoted their products by handing out swag, allowing attendees to have close-up viewing and handling of the product that was being shown.
CopterShop.com promoted their product by flying over attendees’ heads. CopterShop.com is one of many companies that are in the market of personalized flying drones.
“It is a natural extension of people’s willingness to experiment and do new things,” said Steve McIrvin. “First it was pocket cameras, then it was cell phone cameras and now you can take that same picture from the air, and it is a lot more dramatic.”
The event allowed attendees to gain knowledge from skilled professionals, as well as meet many of the industry leaders. The event also offered training in different cinematography skills and had all kinds of quality information in this area.
“I came from production, I worked in the production industry for 20 years … shooting, editing and working for television bureaus in New York,” shared Peter Crithary, Sony’s Marketing Manager for large sensor cameras.
Sony’s main push at the event was 4K video. With the recently released mirrorless body, A7s, shooting 4K, Sony had the complete lineup from budget-friendly A7s (retail $2,500) to the F65 ($80,000 body only).
“The beauty about the 4K is the flexibility it brings to the table,” remarked Crithary. “It delivers a cleaner, crisper, sharper, higher quality, more dynamic, color-rich image.”
Overall, Cine Gear Expo Los Angeles offered artists and technicians the opportunity to discover the latest technology and techniques. They were also able to get hands-on training from industry leaders, who told them of their work in the field and where attendees could obtain the newest equipment. Event-goers had the opportunity to hear breaking industry news as well as network with industry leaders all within a professional and comfortable studio environment.
