Major League Soccer (MLS) has announced the purchase of club team Chivas USA. MLS will appoint a sports executive who will serve as interim club president, and will assume responsibility for club operations effective immediately.

Wilmer Cabrera will remain at the helm as head coach, at least until the league resells the club in the coming months, which it intends to do. The league has been in discussions with several well-qualified ownership groups, who have committed to keeping the team in LA, and build a new stadium.

The team will be rebranded when new ownership is in place, and will continue playing as Chivas USA through the 2014 season.

The club has called the StubHub Center home since its debut in 2005, and will finish the season there. The 2014 season kicks off on March 9 for Chivas USA, as they host the Chicago Fire.
