National Burger Month (May) and Day (28) are upon us, and Los Angeles’s Plan Check Kitchen + Bar is celebrating it in a delicious way.
Former Executive Chef of Umami Burgers Ernesto Uchimura is cooking up some fantastic recipes just in time for this burger clash of the titans.
Innovation is key in Uchimura’s cuisine repertoire, so it is no surprise that he has created siracha and ketchup dehydrated squares, also know as leathers.
Uchimura mixes Asian accents with traditional American classics to deliver his unique and flavorful housemade condiments. There is a variety of condiments that were housemade by Uchimura:
-Apricot and peach ketchup paired with the sweet potato fries or served on a burger by request
-Soy truffle baste tops the Truffle Mushroom Swiss Burger
-Chlorophyll mayo served on the Shillelagh Burger (Wagyu beef patty, pastrami bits, green gruyere cheese, and lettuce)
-Schmaltz onions and masa fried onions served on the Pastrami Gravy Fries and burgers like the Smokey Spicy PCB (Wagyu beef, habanero cheese, ketchup leather, mixed pickles, and bacon on a crunch bun)
-Kumquat gastrique served on the Funky Chicken Burger (Jidori chicken, Jidori chicken liver paté, kumquat gastrique, wild baby arugula, chicken skin cracklins)
Sounds appetizing right?
It looks like it’s going to be a great month in Los Angeles to scarf down some burgers and see who claims the best burger. With such a strong culture of burger lovers, it won’t be easy to win the title of the best, but Plan Check Kitchen + Bar is certainly one to check out because of Uchimura’s reputation and his creative ingredients that revive and add a jolt of flavor to the already tasty American Classic – the burger.
