Borchardt is the new revelation of Latin pop with their debut album, Dulces de Menta. With the release, the group takes a firm step towards gain Latin pop prominence. Dulces de Menta is dedicated to love and heartbreak, and its current single is “Nada de Nada.”

Originally from the state of Sonora, Mexico, Daniel Borchardt (vocals), Daniel Galindo (drums), Angel Borchardt (bass) and Kevin Gonzalez (keyboards) are the four members of Borchardt, which promises to be a revelation in the pop genre. Recently they were on tour in Los Angeles promoting the new album that was released on June 17.

In an interview with Living Out Loud – Los Angeles, they discuss their career thus far. Even though it has only been a year since their start, they have caused a massive sensation with the album on social media and in places where they have played. The name of the band might be a little eccentric and difficult to pronounce, but people have mentioned that they like it because it is original and.

“The story is little long, but there was a lot of propositions for the name, and one of them was Borchardt. It is the family last name, and we thought that it was different. Two years ago my father passed away, and we wanted to pay homage to him,” shares Daniel Borchardt. “He really like us to be united as a family and I made it my mission to keep the family together. The people like it even though it is hard to pronounce. I think people will get used to it.”

They jumped to fame doing covers on YouTube, the first platform that they used to make their talent known, something which is very common these days and that has seen the birth of many artists.

“We have been doing this for like seven years, making music together. We had a lot of songs written but Borchardt started in May of 2015, when we started posting videos to YouTube,” tells Daniel. “At the beginning we would play as a joke, doing covers, but then we decided to play seriously. We never imagined we would go to Los Angeles to record an album, but things happened the way that they did, and now we are doing this tour.”

Every song on Dulces de Menta illustrates the different personalities and musical taste, which range from pop to alternative rock, of each member. The various influences have allowed them to create a sound that includes a personal touch from each of Borchardt’s members.

The album was recorded in Los Angeles in December 2015 and released in June 2016.

“We recorded the album in Hollywood with Ettore Grenci who is really famous in Mexico. We had a friend in common and connected that way,” informs Angel Borchardt. “Dulce De Menta is basically about love and heartbreak. There are songs that talk about love at first sight and others about heartbreak, like our first single ‘Nada de Nada’ that is about when you don’t want to be in a relationship and just want everything to end. We also have a song that is a promise of love and reuniting with that someone.”

They always let themselves be directed by their instincts. They tell us that they were very involved in every detail of the album so that it could end up just the way that they wanted it. It is why they were able to record it in just six days, which involved pre- and post-production through video calls and e-mails.

In the short time they have been together, they have seen positive results. They haven’t stopped mentioning that it has been difficult, more so when they have to finance everything themselves to get to their goals.

“We started doing everything ourselves, covering the costs of the studio and production, then our material fell into the hands of Claudia Abaroa who has her own production company, and she has been supporting us when it comes to management,” says Angel. “We hadn’t had the chance to get connected with a big record label, and for the moment we are still financing the project ourselves but I think that if you meet thee right people you get the results that you are looking for.”
