The National Basketball Association today announced that Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin has been named Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, Mar.10, through Sunday, Mar. 16.  It marks the third time this season Griffin has captured the honor (Nov.11-17 and Dec. 16-22). Al Jefferson of the Charlotte Bobcats was the Eastern Conference winner.

Griffin helped the Clippers extend to an NBA-best 11-game winning streak with a 4-0 week behind averages of 27.0 points (third in the Western Conference), 9.3 rebounds (ninth in the conference), 4.8 assists and 1.5 steals. He posted at least 20 points in all four games (currently at 26 straight games of 20-plus points) and hit 30-plus points twice during the week.

The All-Star forward collected 37 points, six rebounds and three assists in a 112-105 win over the Suns on Mar. 10. Two nights later, he added 30 points, 15 rebounds and three steals in a 111-98 win over division rival Golden State. The February Western Conference Player of the Month nearly collected a triple-double on Mar. 16 against Cleveland, posting 21 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists during a 102-80 win.

Griffin grabbed his 3,000th rebound on Mar. 12 against the Warriors. He became just the third player in NBA history to tally 6,000 points, 3,000 rebounds and 1,000 assists before the end of his fourth season while shooting 50.0 percent or better. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Charles Barkley are the other two.

Other nominees for the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were Atlanta’s Kyle Korver, Indiana’s Paul George, Memphis’ Mike Conley, New Orleans’ Anthony Davis, New York’s Carmelo Anthony and Tim Hardaway Jr, and San Antonio’s Manu Ginobili.
