Get a glimpse behind LAIKA films like the upcoming Kubo and the Two Strings at Universal Studios Hollywood. (Focus Features)
If you loved Coraline, ParaNorman and The Boxtrolls, then I’m sure you already have Aug. 19 circled on your calendar. It’s the day that the acclaimed animation studio behind the three aforementioned Academy Award nominees releases its latest film, Kubo and the Two Strings. In anticipation of the theatrical debut of the epic adventure, Universal Studios Hollywood is hosting the debut of From Coraline to Kubo: A Magical LAIKA Experience at its Globe Theatre from Aug. 5 through 14.
The interactive exhibit, which is included in the price of admission to the theme park, features an up-close look at the artistic detail and imagination behind all of the films LAIKA has released over the past 10 years, focusing on the evolution of the animation studio’s handcrafted stop-motion animation and visual effects magic. Original sets, puppets and props are housed in four imaginatively themed rooms to immerse guests in the fantastical worlds of LAIKA films.
The experience builds up to the Aug. 19 release of Kubo and the Two Strings, which features the voice talents of Charlize Theron, Matthew McConaughey, Ralph Fiennes, George Takei, Cary-Hiroyuki Tarawa, Brenda Vaccaro and Rooney Mara. The film follows the journey of the clever and kindhearted Kubo (Art Parkinson), a young boy whose quiet existence is shattered when he accidentally summons a spirit from his past.
Visit Universal Studios Hollywood from Aug. 5 through 14 for this never-before-experienced LAIKA interactive event.
